JAST 26: Fall 2007 - NATIVE AMERICAN ISSUE Gör

Published in fall 2007, the 26th issue of the Journal of American Studies of Turkey focuses entirely on Native American literature, culture, and education. Gülriz Büken and Meldan Tanrısal open the edition by unpacking the complicated terminology used to describe indigenous peoples. Several writers analyze specific authors: Arnold Krupat reviews David Treuer’s fiction, Michel Feith looks at trickster themes in Louise Erdrich’s work, and João De Mancelos details Joy Harjo’s ecopoetics. Moving beyond literature, Nichole S. Prescott examines indigenous spaces through material objects, and Willard Sakiestewa Gilbert tackles modern Native American education issues. The issue finishes up with a guide to online resources and a review of Chris Eyre’s film Smoke Signals.
