Çalışma, çatışmanın tarihsel kökenleri, çeşitli boyutları—etnik, dini, ulusal ve siyasi—andırın sürekli bir dışlama durumu nedeniyle şüpheciliğe yol açtığını analiz etmektedir. Yazar, 1990'ların başında başlayan İsrail-Palestin barış sürecinin dönüm noktası olduğunu savunmaktadır. Bu çalışma, uluslararası dönüşümlerin, özellikle de Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin etkisinin artmasının bölge dinamiklerini şekillendirmedeki rolünü araştırır. Makale, yine de içsel değişimlerin bölgedeki siyasi iradenin devam etmesine önemli zorluklar oluşturduğunu vurgular.
