JAST 40: Fall 2014
Published in fall 2014, the 40th issue of the Journal of American Studies of Turkey is a special edition dedicated entirely to Henry James. The essays explore his original texts and how later generations adapted them. Ünal Aytür digs into James's prefaces, while Susan M. Griffin tracks the Broadway production of The Europeans. Several contributors focus heavily on The Wings of the Dove, looking at its power dynamics and how illness acts as a form of capital. Richard Parker examines how High Modernists viewed James, and Dorota Babilas breaks down the film version of The Bostonians. The issue wraps up with an interview featuring Gert Buelens, extensive book reviews, and a critique of the movie What Maisie Knew.
