Abstract

This article analyzes Ecopoetics, a journal that has evolved into a diverse and inclusive platform for ecopoetic expressions. The most recent issue, edited by Jonathan Skinner, encompasses a wide range of poetic forms, languages, and multimedia elements, challenging traditional aesthetic boundaries. The article argues that the success of this issue lies in its diversity, which collectively questions, explores, and expands the understanding of ecopoetics itself. The author contends that Ecopoetics encourages readers to perceive global issues as local, themselves as organisms, and poems as transformative. The paper explores how the journal addresses planetary degradation through imagery, allusion, form, and celebration rather than statistics or exhortation. This work investigates the global reach of Ecopoetics, particularly through its feature on Australian ecopoetics, which grounds itself in specific locales while connecting to broader world cultures. The article demonstrates that Ecopoetics fosters a deep connection between poetry and the natural world, with several writers perceiving the origins of poetry in the structures, motions, and sounds of the earth and the human body.
