This article introduces a special issue of the Journal of American Studies of Turkey, focusing on global perspectives of American foreign policy in the Middle East. The paper emerges from discussions among Mexican and Turkish scholars during the 2002 American Studies Conference, highlighting shared concerns about terrorism, U.S. intervention in Iraq, and regional instability. The author contends that international terrorism and U.S. foreign policy are transnational issues that resonate worldwide. The special issue aims to present diverse viewpoints, primarily from Mexican scholars, to enrich the understanding of these complex topics. The articles reflect the geopolitical climate of late 2002 and early 2003, including protests against the impending Iraq invasion and the Bush administration's unilateral policies. Despite subsequent events such as the Iraq War and shifting diplomatic relations, the contributions remain relevant for analyzing American foreign policy and Middle Eastern politics.
