Abstract

This article examines American Studies from a European perspective, emphasizing its decentered and interdisciplinary character. It argues that the field outside the United States rejects American exceptionalism and adopts broader cultural frameworks. The study highlights structural differences between European and American academic systems and critiques the term “civilization” for its imperial implications.
