Abstract

This article analyzes the edited volume Talking Visions: Multicultural Feminism in a Transnational Age, edited by Ella Shohat. The paper explores how the concept of feminism is challenged and redefined in the age of globalism and multiculturalism, as feminists renegotiate fundamental questions about the definition and purpose of feminism within a transnational context. The article argues that the volume attempts to place diverse gendered/sexed histories and geographies in dialogical relation, emphasizing multi-lateral exchanges of ideas and mutual influences among different cultures. The methodology involves a critical review of the book's essays, which include digitized images, reflective essays, testimonial narratives, and performance pieces from non-western feminists. Key findings highlight the volume's efforts to disrupt Eurocentrism and promote polycentric multiculturalism, creating a polyphonic space for diverse feminist voices. The significance of this work lies in its relevance to contemporary feminist critiques, emphasizing the need for multicultural polycentricity and the mobilization of multifarious differences.
