Abstract

This abstract critically examines *Let Me Tell You How I Really Feel... The Uncensored of Classic Images 2001-2010* by Laura Wagner, published in 2010. According to Anis Shivani's theory on criticism, effective literary critique should foster good writing and new readership without undermining the critic’s self-confidence. However, this work falls short of these standards. While Wagner demonstrates a deep passion for classic films, her reviews often prioritize personal opinion over constructive analysis. Her tendency to adopt a privileged stance as an "expert" leads to harsh judgments that fail to encourage or enlighten. Instead, she employs a style marked by pseudo-witty rhetoric aimed at showcasing her expertise rather than broadening readers' understanding of film criticism. Examples include dismissive comments on excessive punctuation and overly emotional language in reviewed texts. Consequently, Wagner's approach undermines the potential for meaningful dialogue about classic films, instead opting for superficial critiques that prioritize entertainment over insight.
