Abstract

This article analyzes the socio-economic conditions of an inner-city neighborhood in Baltimore, fifty years after the March on Washington. The author contends that despite progress, significant challenges remain, particularly in terms of residential segregation and its impact on education. The paper explores the lived experiences of residents, highlighting issues such as crime, poverty, and systemic discrimination. This study examines the persistence of racial and economic disparities through personal anecdotes and broader socio-political context. The author demonstrates how historic preservation efforts have failed to revitalize the area, leaving it vulnerable to blight and neglect. The article argues that while symbolic progress has been made, substantive change is still needed to achieve Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of equality.
